Havasupai 2021 Rallye – October 22-24, 2021

Rally masters - Ed and Annette Crawford

We need to make a U-Turn!” “We’re off course!” These statements are often spoken between the driver and the navigator on a Desert Stars Rallye. We know this because Annette and I have personally said these words to each other on previous Desert Stars events. We must now use these words regarding the location and plans for the upcoming Havasupai 2021. We took a U-turn and the Fall Havasupai 2021 will now be taking fellow Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts to Northern Arizona.

Mark your calendar for October 22-24 for a weekend of fun and camaraderie with your fellow Desert Star members. Our accommodations on Friday and Saturday will be familiar to most members, as we converge on Little America Hotel located in Flagstaff, Arizona. We have negotiated a limited number of rooms at the special rate of $199.00/night (plus 11.18% tax). Registrants will need to book their hotel rooms directly with the hotel and for your convenience; the hotel has established an 800 number for reservations, which is 1-800-352-4386. When calling, please make sure to mention “Desert Stars Mercedes Benz Club” to receive the negotiated rate. Please note that your room and tax are the responsibility of individual member.

The Havasupai 2021 registration fee is $249.00 per couple. Single/additional registrant fee is $125.00. Fees cover Friday evening’s appetizers, Saturday’s lunch, Saturday evening’s awards dinner and prizes for those that compete in the Rallye, and non-alcoholic beverages at meals. As with all Desert Stars events, alcoholic beverages are the members’ responsibility. Lastly, breakfast each morning is on your own. The weekend events will start late Friday afternoon with hosted appetizers.

On Saturday morning, we will, in essence, have two Rallye’s, the traditional, competitive rallye with prizes for the top 3 winners AND a “Relax- A-Rallye” where registrants can come and enjoy the camaraderie, scenic drives, and sharing meals together without feeling that they have to “compete”. Those choosing the “relax-a-rallye” will be provided with a map and timetable for the day to enjoy a more leisurely event, but will not be eligible for the rallye prizes/awards.

Call Debbie at 480-268-9535 to register for the event and call Little America to book your room.

45 East Southern Avenue, Mesa, AZ
Event Description:

Are you ready for some Poker fun? We have a day of exciting card action planned for you as we again visit several of the club’s newsletter advertisers around the valley and hear about their offerings to Desert Stars members while gathering your winning hand.

This year’s event will commence Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10:30 am.  The starting location will be Rhodium45 (https//45rhodium.com) located at 45 East Southern Avenue, Mesa, AZ where you will receive your travel route handout, draw your first card and have the opportunity to view both their vehicle storage and member lounge capabilities as well as Larry Read’s fantastic collection of classic cars.

On your travel route for the event, you will draw SEVEN cards for development of a winning 5-card hand.  But, if you don’t get the exact cards that you need, you can use the “points” that you will earn by coming in with correct answers to a number of simple “challenge questions” and or pictures along the route to improve your hand; you can then “buy” replacement cards at our final stop should your Poker hand be less than desirable. Each replacement card will cost the number of “points” that we will define from your stash at our final stop.  So, the better you do at answering or identifying the “questions or pictures”, you may have enough points to purchase up to FOUR replacement cards if your hand is somewhat deficient. These replacement cards will surely “enhance” your draw and give you a much better chance of a WINNING one of the premier prizes!!

Both the winners and those not as lucky will have an interesting drive and a great dinner with prizes presented during dinner. The cost of this extravaganza is $15 per person! Your only requirements are to provide: a) your own transportation andfuel; b) $ for drinks and whatever you select from the menu for dinner; and c) brainpower and observation to “ace” the “challenge questions”, assuming you don’t yet have the winning hand!

We will end the day at approx. 5:00 p.m. at O.H.S.O Eatery and Distillery at 15681 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ for an early dinner.  We will be exclusively sitting in the restaurant’s large outdoor seating area.

Please RSVP as soon as possible to ensure that you have a spot for the event as it will be limited to a maximum of 30 people [15 cars].  The deadline for registration is March For registration please contact Debbie Ichiyama @ 480-268-9535

Event Description:

John and Dottie Miller’s plans for the October 17 Poker Run have been completed. The fun will begin at the Holiday Inn Express in Morrilton, Arkansas, located at 8 Bruce Street, just south of I-40 and Hwy. 9. You can see the hotel from the intersection. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the hotel parking lot to check off all names and hand out a map of the run, draw the first playing card and any other necessary business. There is no cost to participate in the run but if you want to enter your name to draw a card, the fee will be $10.00 per person. At the final destination, we will draw the final card for the winning participant. The winner will receive half of the pot with the other half going to the Ozark Section for future expenses. The total value of the five cards picked will determine a winner. If there is a tie, a card for each final winner will be drawn to break the tie. We will leave the parking area of the hotel at approximately 9:30 a.m., turning left to make the short drive to Hwy. 9. Turning right onto Hwy. 9 will take us to Hwy. 64 where we will head East to Hwy. 25, which is at the west end on Conway. Then travel north for about a mile to Kinley Drive with a beautiful lake-park to draw the second playing card. Our third stop will be at the corner of Hwy. 64 and Hwy, 5. Continuing north on Hwy. 5 to Hopewell we will draw the fourth card and then onto our destination in Heber Springs. The Millers have picked a beautiful location for lunch at the Red Apple Inn, 305 Club Road, on Eden Isle. A very large dining room is available for us to enjoy lunch, and we will draw the last final card for the grand winner. If any of the group would like to take in one more surprise, the Millers are planning a trip back toward Morrilton but heading a little more west to view something they won’t currently talk about. They will provide a second map to all who want to get a little adventurous. From this final location, it is easy to head back home Northwest towards Harrison, Arkansas or South to Morrilton and back home on I-40. The Holiday Inn Express has offered us a rate of $ 94.00 to $ 104.00 per stay. Several members may plan to spend Friday night. Please call the hotel at least 5 days before the event to ensure availability. The number is: 501-215-4924. If there are any questions about this event, please don't hesitate to contact the Millers at 479-414-9415 or [email protected]. All other information on the route will be handed out at the hotel. Please come join us for a great day of fun. See you there!
