  • Fall is just around the corner, and with that, the beautiful autumn colors, and crisper weather that we all look forward to at summer's end. This year should be no different!

The virus shut down all our event plans since our dinner this last February but now... its high time we get together again!

We have lunch scheduled in General Butler State Park's Two Rivers restaurant on September 23 at 1:00PM. General Butler is in Carrolton Kentucky and a few miles north of I71's exit 44, on KY-227 North. Two Rivers' entrance is on the West side of KY-227 (my GPS was wrong saying it is on the East side, beware).

Fred Mudge will lead a caravan from Mercedes-Benz of Louisville and leave promptly at noon. His route will be via I71, but his return route will be on scenic Hwy 42.

A few notes about the restaurant...

Two Rivers is General Butler's main dining room and it is large enough to accommodate all of us with appropriate safe distancing with many tables for four and six diners. They have done their best to ensure a safe dining experience during these pandemic times but beware, it goes without saying, you will be dining at your own risk.

Before determining the lunch date we met with their staff and learned that they do not accept reservations, Thursday through Sunday are their busiest days and they will be going on their Winter schedule with limited staff and hours the week after our lunch date. They suggested Wednesday September 23rd and we agreed.

Two Rivers’ menu has a good variety of lunches and the food is not only tasty but reasonably priced as well (Their Hot Brown is great!). The dining room view overlooks lakes and trees that should be, hopefully, in Fall full colors and awesome!

  • It's the annual Oktoberfest All-German Car Show with our buds in the BMW, Porsche, and Audi clubs. The Mercedes-Benz Club started to event quite a few years ago with just a handful of cars. We've outgrown several different venues and now we're at a new location on the top deck of a parking garage immediately east of BMA Tower -- the biggest expanse in town we can find that will hold us. (Thanks to a little help from our friends at the Kansas City Automotive Museum.) With the other clubs we now routinely draw over 225 cars of all vintages.

This is a not a judged concours. Just run your car through Waterway and bring it over still dripping wet. We'll have an area reserved just for us. A lawn chair would be a good idea. There is a travelling "Hog" trophy to the club that draws the most cars, so come on out and help us win the trophy back from the pesky BMWs. Oh, and possibly win a door prize.

Come on out to admire some great cars and visit with your Benz friends at a socially-approved distance. (See Note below.)

There will be updates to this post. Check back!

09-18-2020 UPDATE: This event will also be an opportunity to qualify for the MBCA Silver Star Preservation Award. If your roadworthy Mercedes is 25 years of age or older, essentially original, and you drove it to the event, MBCA certification forms will be available for you to apply.

This is a self-certification, with verification from two on-site judges. Assuming your car qualifies, you'll apply to the MBCA NBO for a great certificate (here it comes: suitable for framing!) and authorization to purchase a handsome and exclusive Silver Star Preservation grill badge. They are way cool and only available to owners who have received the certification. The judging involved is NOT a concours beauty contest, but a verification of eligibility in regard to function and originality. Application form here.

Note: We will observe the Kansas City, Missouri extended State of Emergency proclamation in effect until January 16, 2021. This is an all-outdoor event. Accordingly, while nor required, all Kansas Citians are strongly encouraged to wear masks outdoors in any situation where they are unable to maintain six feet of social distance from others.

We will all meet at 12:00 Noon at the Wollersheim Winery, 7876 State Road 188, near Prairie du Sac. This historic and award-winning winery overlooks the Wisconsin River. We will have a light lunch at their Bistro. They are not doing any tours now, but you can visit their wine gift shop if you like (must wear a mask due to Dane County rules). https://www.wollersheim.com/bistro/.

Afterwards, we will begin our driving tour to Mirror Lake State Park on several scenic fall color roads. We will drive by the state-owned and restored Seth Peterson Cottage, which overlooks Mirror Lake State Park. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1958, a year before his death (www.seth-peterson.org). The cottage is currently closed to visitor tours due to the virus. A state of Wisconsin Park sticker is required if you stop to park, but not if just driving through it. Afterwards, you can drive back home on any route you choose.

Please call/text message Bernd Kampe at 262-492-4441 or email [email protected] by Oct 5th if you will be joining us on this unique fall color tour.

We will meet at 11 AM at the Holiday Inn Express at Exit 11 off Route 81 in Cortland, N.Y. on the East side of route I 81. This may be the best time to record a picture before departing. The club requests that while we gather that social distancing be observed and masks worn. Once returning to your car, of course masks are at your discretion.

We will tour along sparsely travelled New York Highway 41 from Cortland to our destination, Skaneateles NY. The tour is 32 miles and may take up to one hour. Doug and Bea Archer will lead the way.

Lunch in Skaneateles offers choices. You may bring on your own packed picnic basket and enjoy your lunch at either of two parks bordering Skaneateles Lake harbor, or choose a restaurant, all open, on the main ‘drag’. The Sherwood Inn serves lunch with distancing inside or outside with same menu. After lunch feel free to explore the town and harbor and return home at your leisure.

The fun will begin at the Holiday Inn Express in Morrilton, Arkansas, located at 8 Bruce Street, just south of I-40 and Hwy. 9. You can see the hotel from the intersection. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the hotel parking lot to check off all names and hand out a map of the run, draw the first playing card and any other necessary business. There is no cost to participate in the run but if you want to enter your name to draw a card, the fee will be $10.00 per person. At the final destination, we will draw the final card for the winning participant. The winner will receive half of the pot with the other half going to the Ozark Section for future expenses. The total value of the five cards picked will determine a winner. If there is a tie, a card for each final winner will be drawn to break the tie. We will leave the parking area of the hotel at approximately 9:30 a.m., turning left to make the short drive to Hwy. 9. Turning right onto Hwy. 9 will take us to Hwy. 64 where we will head East to Hwy. 25, which is at the west end on Conway. Then travel north for about a mile to Kinley Drive with a beautiful lake-park to draw the second playing card. Our third stop will be at the corner of Hwy. 64 and Hwy, 5. Continuing north on Hwy. 5 to Hopewell we will draw the fourth card and then onto our destination in Heber Springs. The Millers have picked a beautiful location for lunch at the Red Apple Inn, 305 Club Road, on Eden Isle. A very large dining room is available for us to enjoy lunch, and we will draw the last final card for the grand winner. If any of the group would like to take in one more surprise, the Millers are planning a trip back toward Morrilton but heading a little more west to view something they won’t currently talk about. They will provide a second map to all who want to get a little adventurous. From this final location, it is easy to head back home Northwest towards Harrison, Arkansas or South to Morrilton and back home on I-40. The Holiday Inn Express has offered us a rate of $ 94.00 to $ 104.00 per stay. Several members may plan to spend Friday night. Please call the hotel at least 5 days before the event to ensure availability. The number is: 501-215-4924. If there are any questions about this event, please don't hesitate to contact the Millers at 479-414-9415 or [email protected]. All other information on the route will be handed out at the hotel. Please come join us for a great day of fun. See you there!

  • UNFORTUNATELY, THE PRESTON CANCELLED IS CLOSED UNTIL 2021 AND THIS EVENT IS THEREFORE CANCELLED.  WE WILL DO IT NEXT YEAR!

You haven’t seen creepy until you’ve visited the Preston Castle in Ione.  Completed in 1894, it was built to house juvenile criminals.   Famous guests include Merle Haggard.  It has long been said that the castle is haunted and it has been investigated by a variety of ghost hunters. Several deaths occurred at the castle throughout the years, but it is believed to be haunted by Anna Corbin, a housekeeper who was found beaten to death in 1950.

We will meet in the Sacramento area and caravan through the beautiful foothills and wine country.

Check out the creepy photos here: https://prestoncastle.org/photos/

We are arranging a private tour, so space is limited.  Final details, including date and time, will be announced. (The date listed here, 10/17/2020, is a placeholder, as no date is set yet). RSVP to David Michael at [email protected]

  • Join us for a long-overdue live event that permits us to socialize but remain safe. We’ll each enjoy our beloved marque on a drive from our respective homes to Andrew Jackson State Park (196 Andrew Jackson Park Rd, Lancaster, SC 29720).

Arriving there between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m., we’ll convene as a responsibly distanced group at our reserved picnic shelter, complete with tables. If the weather permits, and you’d rather bring along your favorite picnic blanket – go for it! Members are asked to provide their own picnic lunches and beverages. Please note that smoking and alcoholic beverages are not permitted in SC State Parks. Registration is not required for this event.

SC State Parks are open, and they do require appropriate COVID precautions – you can find their guidelines HERE. They also recommend that admission be purchased online to limit contact with park staff. THIS is the link to purchase admission. We suggest that you purchase admission the same day as our picnic, then present your receipt at the park gate for entry. Admission to the park is $3 for adults; $1.50 for SC seniors; $1 children age 6-15; age 5 & younger free. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet.

Admission to the park includes visiting the museum which contains Revolutionary War artifacts and artifacts related to President Jackson. There are exhibits that reveal the lifeways of South Carolina’s backcountry during the late 18th century. Discover the impact of the Revolutionary War on the local community. Gain an understanding of how being reared in this setting prepared Andrew Jackson to become our Seventh President. Museum Hours are 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.

Once you enter the park, proceed along the park’s main road – Andrew Jackson Park Road past Museum Ln. to your right, then past Campsite Ln. on your left. You will arrive at the parking lot. Please back into your spot so we can easily admire your engine bay after our picnic.  Our reserved picnic shelter (Shelter 1) is at the end of the parking lot – you will have passed it on your left as you drove in. Look for our Section’s banner on display.

Should you become lost or get delayed, contact organizer David Thorne at 704.293.6411. We hope to see you for a casual, safely distant but social event that will still allow us to admire our Section’s wonderful vehicles!

  • Once again, we are going to take our fall drive to Winnsboro, TX and it will be for the 56th Annual Autumn Trails Event which is an annual month-long event for the town of Winnsboro.   Saturday the 24nd is for Antique Cars and car clubs that features a parade into downtown.  It will be a fun day with our club participating in the parade and for those who have attended in the past, seeing the kids and throwing candy is worth the trip.  The events began 56 years ago with the Model A Club of Dallas, seeing the cars is also amazing with some great restorations of these historic cars.  With the coronavirus guidelines regarding groups and social distancing this year we will not be scheduling a lunch afterward.  There are several fast food restaurants at the highway 30 and highway 11 exit and into Sulphur Springs there are also restaurants.

We will be forming up for the parade on Highway 11 in the same place as last year.   Just remember to bring candy, lots of candy to throw out to the kids on the parade route.  This has been a lot of fun for our club in the past; you won’t believe all of the cars and the kids on the parade route are the most fun of all.

Ron and Carolee Seifert will be hosting the event and the schedule follows.

Meet for check-in at 8:00 AM at the QuickTrip gas station at 1400 E. Joe Ramsey Blvd, Greenville, TX. (It is at the southeast corner of HYW 69 and I-30 East in Greenville).  If anyone is lost call Ron’s cell phone at 972-824-0464.

We will leave at 8:15 AM for Winnsboro. It is a 55-mile drive from Greenville and we form up for the parade in Winnsboro at 10 AM. It is important if we want to stay together to be there on time.  We must leave at 8:15 AM!

The cost for the event/drive will be $10 per car, payable at check-in or PayPal..

Don’t worry about not having an antique or classic car or convertibles just come; they welcome the MB Club participation.  For those with convertibles or antique restorations it will be a fun place to show your car and you can practice your special hand wave for the crowd.  Put your section magnetic sign on your cars for the event if you have them.  I will have them for sale at check-in if you would like to purchase a set. The cost for the set is $14.00.

Call Ron Seifert at 972-824-0464 or email at [email protected] by October 20th if you are attending or sign up on PayPal.  We are looking for a great turnout and this time of year should give us great driving weather and a nice day for a fall drive.

Let’s enjoy some Wienerschnitzel, Bauernwurst with homemade Sauerkraut, or an old-fashioned German Bologna or Liverwurst sandwich while toasting a Schofferhofer Bier or Dinkel Acker Dinkel Acker CD-Pil!

We have vetted this restaurant, and received their approval to host this event. We will be socially-distanced, with outdoor dining facilities. You are encouraged to bring an outdoor folding chair to facilitate sitting in small groups if you wish.

If you have a vehicle you'd like to put on display in their "drive-in" hall we'd like to work you in as part of an exhibit. We're looking for about 10 somewhat historic or unique cars. In 2015 we were impressed with the care they gave our display cars and I doubt much has changed. The staff is full of car people who totally understand exhibit security and flexible move-ins and move-outs based on fair weather. They'd like your car to be there for the full month-long exhibit but exceptions may be possible.
