No other US Sections enjoy the relationship your Section has developed over the past 2 Decades.  You don’t have to be a mechanic, appreciation for the Brand, respect for the privilege and a Saturday morning with NTX Members, PP Staff, sweet rolls, juice and coffee is what is takes.  Join us!

Please Advance Plan your tasks to complete in the time allotted, using your own tools and within your capability.  Meet in the parking lot before 7:30 for Introductions, Briefing, and setting expectations.  Arrive late, miss the briefing, No Lift.

Please limit your tasks and patronize our Host Workshop by Coordinating with Park Place Parts [(P) 214.443.8290] to have fluids, filters, parts and material on hand. We will start about 8:30 and roll out by 11:30.  This allows time for you to settle your parts tab, clean your work area, stow your tools, to ensure you’ve left nothing behind and that your bay is in better shape than you found it and be clear of the Shop before 12 Noon.  Please allow time to personally thank all the Techs and PP Leadership that came in to help us Saturday.  These DIYs are a privilege and we will to continue to earn it.

All MBCA members in good standing are welcome to register on line via PayPal.  Access to the Lifts is first come first served based on PayPal registration date and time for Mercedes vehicles only and current Members.  Registration is $15 per Benz and is limited to 22 vehicles.  This covers Refreshments, Coffee and Sweet rolls for all.

This DIY event is Sold Out.  None the less all MBCA Section Members are welcome to join us in the Shop for sweet rolls, coffee and juice to learn and socialize.  We are looking to work out details for an early May DIY at MB McKinney.  Watch this Website for Details.

Mercedes-Benz was the first and continues as the most prominent sponsor with an awesome pavilion on the show field and a star studded gala at the Ritz Carlton on Saturday evening.

If you have an invitation to the gala, this is your pass to the pavilion.  These places have been filled for some time.

MBCA members gather for dinner Friday night and Saturday night as well as at the Saturday morning Cars and Coffee at the concours. If you don’t already have a car entry confirmed for this, forget it.   It has been filled for quite some time.

MBCA will, however have a tent in the area of the Mercedes-Benz pavilion.  You are welcome to see the historic Mercedes-Benz display both Saturday and Sunday.  We would also welcome your help with recruiting new members among the visitors to the Mercedes-Benz area.  Just tell Enthusiast Committee Chair Josie Lesler or any of the MBCA board members you would like to help.

National Director at Large, Jim Roberts and the Alabama/ N.W. Florida Section have arranged traditional Fri & Sat evening dinners for MBCA members and guests.

Friday, 6 March at 6:30pm We will be at the Jacksonville Airport Doubletree Hotel’s banquet facilities.  This will feature an extensive buffet. The hotel will collect from you at the door.

Note: This replaces our traditional event in Kingsland, GA, as “The Millhouse” restaurant there has closed.  The Jacksonville Airport is about 25 min from Kingsland (i.e. the same time as it is to Amelia Island).

Saturday, 7 March at 6pm we will be at the Crab Trap in historic Fernandina Beach.  This is also about 25 min from Kingsland or the Jacksonville airport. You will be able to order from the extensive menu.

Each year these events have grown.  In order for the facilities to plan it is important that you let Jim know each of the nights you will be attending at [email protected].  These are all great events to see and visit with your MBCA friends from all over North America.

Event starts officially at 0800, however, we try to post up around 6:35-6:40 to "reserve" some spots for Mercedes! No one is allowed to reserve spots beyond 8 AM, so we are encouraging enthusiasts to show up early to try to get close to our tent and group!

Southern Stars Section is encouraging local Mercedes enthusiasts, owners and MBCA members to come out share their rides and meet like-minded people, while enjoying the largest monthly car event in Jacksonville, Florida, the largest city by land mass in the USA! There is often a designated "Euro" section, however sometimes it is over taken by vendors, so please look for our MBCA banner flag in our beige tent! We have an Evite distro list as well that can remind members and enthusiasts of the dates of these Cars & Coffee meetups, if you are interested in that, please reach out to me! Some months, nearly 1000 cars show up, including many restored vintage rides and exotic cars!

At every event, The Avenues Mall will open up early just for Cars & Coffee participants. Chick-fil-A will serve hot coffee, breakfast items, and other refreshments. Additionally, other vendors and restaurants may participate in offering specific items just after Cars & Coffee begins. We ask that everyone please look for one of our MBCA Officers or Directors for parking in our row(s), as time and parking spots permit!

  • 2020 Desert Stars Poker Run

Are you ready for some Poker fun?  We have a day of exciting cards action planned for you as we visit several of the club’s newsletter advertisers around the valley while gathering your winning hand.  This year’s event will start at 10:30am on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Finishing Touch Body Shop, 16940 E. Colony Drive, Fountain Hills, A where you will hear a bit about their Mercedes capabilities, and pick up your first card.  After a short stay, you will then head for Schumacher European Mercedes, 18530 N Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85054.

At Schumacher, there will be a presentation by several of the Schumacher Mercedes experts on the new 2020 vehicles in the showroom (maybe there will be an EQC) as well as a discussion on any new safety features that are either standard or optional on the 2020 line of M-B vehicles.  The presentation will be followed by a light lunch, and the draw of another winning card.

Around 1:00pm we will be off and running to learn more about the advertisers in the Star Dust Newsletter, and to pick another 5 cards to build your winning hand!

But wait, there’s more!!  Past Poker Runs have not incorporated the long-term poker rule which allows discards and the opportunity to update your hand; we are bringing it back this year!  At each stop, there will be a simple “challenge question”; if you have correct answers to some or all of the questions, you will earn “points” which can then be used to “buy” replacement cards at our final stop should your Poker hand be less than desirable.  Each replacement card will cost you “points”, so the better you do at answering the “challenge questions”, you may have enough to purchase up to FOUR replacement cards. These replacement cards will surely “enhance” your draw to give you a much better chance of a WINNING hand!!  Both the winners and those not as lucky will have an interesting drive and a great dinner with prizes presented during dinner.

The cost of this extravaganza is $39 per person which includes dinner and prizes.  Your only requirement is to provide your own transportation, fuel, $ for a cash bar at dinner and brainpower to “ace” the “challenge questions”, assuming you don’t yet have the winning hand!

Fill out the signup form in this issue of the Star Dust and send it in right away!  The final date to enter the Poker Run is Friday, March 6, 2020 so that we can have enough spaces and food for everyone at dinner.

Additional information and a reminder of the event will be provided in the March-April issue of the Star Dust and an email blasts about a week before the date.

On the weekend of March 20/21 the Houston section will join our friends from the Lone Star section (Austin) for a tour of the Spoetzl Brewery and Painted Churches. The weekend will include an overnight stay at a nearby hotel and dinner at an award winning steakhouse. All events are in Lavaca County Texas, about an hour and a half drive west from Katy on I-10.

The Spoetzl Brewery, located in Shiner Texas, is the only location that brews Shiner Beer. More than 6 million cases a year. The tour will be led by a Spoetzl Brewery employee that will include a brief history of the facility and an overview of the process, bottling and shipping. The end of the tour will include a stop at the gift shop and opportunity to sample Shiner brews.

The painted churches of Texas are a group of churches near Schulenburg built in the late 1800s by German and Czech immigrants. The immigrants painted their places of worship to remind them of the churches back home. The ceilings and walls inside the churches are painted bright vivid colors with biblical scenes and statues. Their painting techniques give the impression of depth and dimension. The frames around the doors and windows appear to have the intricate detail of wood work carvings but in fact are flat surfaces. Many of the wood columns are painted to look like ancient stone with mortar lines and cracks from withstanding the test of time. But again they are smooth flat surfaces. The high ceilings are painted to give the impression that the building has no roof and you were looking up into the heavens and gazing at the stars on a clear night. It is quite impressive.

These facilities are fully operational churches with a congregation, staff and pastor. Services are held on Sunday and therefore our tour is scheduled for Saturday.

See this link from FOX26 Houston News to get an overview of the Painted Churches. www.fox26houston.com/news/one-tank-trip-painted-churches-of-texas

THE TREASURER STORY:  Ida Armstrong is broke, lonely and fading fast.  And she's spending all of her children's money, forcing her son to assume the unwanted role of “The Treasurer”, an arrangement that becomes untenable the more he questions his devotions to her.  This darkly funny, sharply intimate celebrated new work chronicles the strained ties between a son and his aging mother, and the hell of a guilty conscience.

Immediately following the show we will enjoy cocktails and a superb dinner at BASILE – FINE ITALIAN KITCHEN   featuring modern and classic Italian cuisine, just a few blocks away from the theatre.

    Saturday March 28th 9 AM

    Desert Stars,

By special invitation from Tina Small, of Airpark Collision, please join us for a special tech session sponsored by their staff. Snacks and refreshments included. They will demonstrate how repair methods for aluminum panels differ from techniques and tools used for steel repair. Also, see their latest piece of high tech equipment-the Matrix Wand. An advanced camera system helping to ensure that vehicle measurements are properly restored to pre-accident condition.

Airpark Collision Center was opened in 2006 by Gerald Small, a master auto refinish technician. Starting in the industry in 1988 at a BMW collision repair center, Gerald worked to be the best at his trade and eventually opened his very own shop. To this day it continues to be family owned. You will find his wife Tina at the front desk and Gerald performing quality checks for each car in process.

Restoring vehicles to factory specifications has always been the focus. Airpark Collision Center uses top notch materials, factory paint, and employs master technicians. This combination allows the shop to meet high customer expectations. Each year ACC continues to earn the highest certification in the industry, I - Car Gold Class. This certification means technicians train annually and use the latest industry repair methods. With technology and safety standards changing everyday, customers can count on a proper repair.

For over 13 years, the level of attention and quality has earned Airpark Collision Center a reputation for repairing high end vehicles like Mercedes Benz and other premium brands. Their philosophy of competitive pricing, best quality, issuing completion dates and solid customer service has allowed ACC to strongly compete with other auto body shops in the valley.

The delta of the rivers that drain from Alabama into Mobile Bay are known to biologists from the world over as one of the most diverse habitats in the world. The ecotours of this area are just beginning, and air boats seem to be the best way to view this massive and relatively undisturbed delta of myriad waterways.  The spring season is an ideal time to visit:   Mild weather plus the migrating birds produce a unique experience.

Best of all, it is easily accessible from the Mobile Bay causeway (I-10 & US 31).

This is also peak of Azalea blooming in the Mobile area, and this is most accessible at world renowned Bellingrath Gardens just southwest of Mobile. While you probably have examples of these beautiful flowering shrubs, they thrive better around Mobile, than anywhere else.

Please let us know if you would be inclined to visit either or both of these on 28 March weekend.

While most in the Mobile area have probably taken many visitors to Bellingrath, relatively few have experienced          the 5 Rivers delta.

If you have never been to one of our Antiques Road Shows now is the time to come on out and enjoy the good time had by all. If you have attended in the past, you know how much fun it is and the stories of what the objects are thought to be and what some of them actually turn out to be are quite different and hilarious. (Remember the ‘soup tureen’ that was actually a ‘slop pot’?)

Go through some of the items that have been hiding away in the attic or the basement that Grandma or Grandpa left you, and see if you find anything interesting. Maybe you have something that you are curious about and want to know what it is or how much it might be worth - bring it.  You might have something that you picked up at a yard or garage sale and want to know more about it - bring it. You may bring 3 items per person.

Over the years we have seen some fabulous items that have turned out to be valuable and some that people have overpaid for - oh well!

We will hold the 19th Annual NNJS Antiques Roadshow at the Bridgewater Manor starting at 12:00 p.m..  So, save the date – Sunday, March 29, 2020 for this wonderful event.

As we get closer to April we'll post all the details. We anticipate purchasing a table or more, depending upon member interest. You will need to RSVP for this event just as soon as it is announced -- previous DWTC events have sold out.
