The Great Car Show, a fundraiser for the National WWI Museum and the Kansas City Automotive Museum was billed as "Rain or Shine," and we got a little of each! With newly re-implemented COVID-19 health restrictions we weren't sure what to expect in terms of the crowd of entrants and spectators, but we were not disappointed. The sponsors did adapt the show to circumstances by eliminating actvities that tended to draw crowds together, so there was no judging, live music, or cooling tents. But there were hundreds of vehicles of every description on display, plenty of spectators and about a dozen food trucks -- so the show went on. And overall, nature cooperated with generally overcast skies that kept the air temperature pretty reasonable for late July in Kansas City.

Mary Marks and her daughter Angela drove Mary's beautifully restored 1966 230SL 4-speed manual; Vice President Ann Mellina brought her immaculate all-original 1995 SL320; Mike Carlson brought his similarly immaculate all-original 1997 C280; and President Rich Carlson fully intended to bring his squeaky clean 53,000-mile all original 1982 300D Turbo. Rich ended up bringing his S550 as a fill-in when the 300D spouted (not too strong a word) a disabling oil leak the day before the show. (You can always tell when a car is a faithful companion if it breaks in your driveway and not on the highway.) (Insert smiley face here.)
