Section explores  the Talimena Scenic drive

Sixteen members of the Eastern Oklahoma section embarked on a full-day, 360-mile excursion to the Talimena National Scenic byway on Saturday November 2, 2019. Ron and Jean Hardage put together a challenging drive full of twists, turns, steep downhill grades, autumn foliage, and  ice cream  for those who made it to the end.

The Talimena Scenic drive winds 54 miles along the crest of Rich Mountain and Winding Stair Mountain in the Ouachita National Forest (pronounced Wash-i-tah).  It offers some of the most breathtaking vistas in two states and winds between the historic gateway town of Talihina Oklahoma to Mena Arkansas.

Section members held a picnic lunch halfway through the drive at the Winding Stair campground and scenic overlook. The group ended the trail at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge and park with a fantastic view of valley below.

Ice cream was a final treat in Poteau Ok as members embarked on the long drive home to Tulsa.
