Thirty-four attendees in twenty-four cars attended the Fourteenth Annual Texas Mercedes-Benz Owners’ Get Together on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Attendees converged on Centerville from Houston, the DFW area, Kerrville, Waco, and other areas for a fun day with other Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. The weather turned out to be perfect with clear country skies and moderate temperatures. Caravans of Mercedes-Benz vehicles (and some Mercedes-Benz owners who didn’t bring their Mercedes-Benzes) arrived in Centerville at Woody’s Smokehouse at about noon for lunch. After attendees met and greeted each other in the parking lot, we all went inside for lunch in the reserved dining room, which our group filled to capacity! Attendees dined on chopped beef sandwiches, sliced brisket, bacon wrapped quail breast, thick cut smoked pork chops, and sausage links just to name a few of the options available at Woody’s. After lunch and a few brief introductions from Joseph Middleton and by Erroll Hines on behalf of the Houston Section, the group made its way to Fort Boggy State Park just south of town. Once settled into the reserved parking area, attendees got to work on shining up their rides for the show and shine. Others walked around and peeked under the hood and offered well received technical advice and made a few connections for parts sources. Shortly thereafter, voting commenced for the Show and Shine. Vehicles were judged and voted on by people’s choice via ballot. The four categories for consideration were: Best Vintage Model (Pre 1990), Best 1990s Model, Best 2000s Model, and Best 2010s Model. After voting was completed and the ballots tallied, the winners were announced in the Pavilion. For Best Vintage Model, the winner was Greg Gripp for his stunningly red 1982 300D Turbo Diesel. The winner for Best 1990s Model was MBCA Houston Section 2018 Member of the Year, Louis Merkle for his 1994 E500. The winner of the Best 2000s Model was Erroll Hines for his 2005 SL500. The winner for the Best 2010s Model was Emil Hunter for his beautiful, black cherry 2015 S550.

Photos were taken of the award winners along with a group photo of the event attendees. After that, everyone headed back home or to wherever the three-pointed star led them. Thanks to Woody’s Smokehouse and Fort Boggy State Park for accommodating our group, and thanks to MBCA Houston for their continued support of this event. If you missed out this year, you missed a treat! We’ll see you in 2020 for the FIFTEENTH Annual Texas Mercedes-Benz Owners’ Get Together!
