Ten folks in 5 cars joined us for a country drive to Waco, a BBQ lunch, a craft village visit, and delicious cheese.  Some members opted out due to high chances of rain.  However, apart from a few short drizzles en route, the rain stayed away, the roads were dry, the temperature was refreshingly cooler and the crowds stayed home.  It all turned out for the best.

Lunch was at the Red Wagon BBQ, which serves about the best BBQ anywhere. Then, we visited the Homestead Craft Village, established by folks who have decided to simplify their lives with old skills, old traditions and living low-tech. We saw the pottery shop, woodworking shop, blacksmith forge, water-powered grist mill, textile shop, gift shop and more, all immaculately maintained. The folks who run these establishments were very nice and answered any questions asked in great detail.  This village and way of life was featured in the Texas Country Reporter TV series some years ago.  Last, we visited Brazos Valley Cheese, makers of excellent cheeses which some of us purchased to take home.  We enjoyed a great cheese tray and iced tea at their picnic area before the trip home.
