Fort Worth and Lone Star's Texas Hill Country Run - Boerne!

Fort Worth
Saturday, April 29, 2017 - 8:30am to Sunday, April 30, 2017 - 2:00pm

Our 2017 Hill Country Run was an overnighter at Boerne, TX.  Thirty-four members in 18 cars from Fort Worth, Lone Star and Texas Hill Country sections attended, with 4 more joining us just for lunch.  We stayed at the Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort in Boerne.

On Saturday we made our way to Boerne on roads less traveled.  We linked up  with attendees from Lone Star and Hill Country sections for lunch at Joe's Bar & Grill in Llano.  We stopped at Luckenbach along the way, and we were fortunate to see a great band playing wonderful music at the grandstand.  After we got settled at the resort, we had dinner at the upscale Cypress Grill in downtown Boerne.  After dinner, we played R/C Model Car Autocross, another of our world-famous games.  Contestants “drove” a model G-Wagen on a predetermined course by remote control.  Those who took the least time to complete the course won great prizes.  Congratulations to the winners!  They were:

1st:  Arno Pitzen - Mercedes-Benz wine corkscrew and stopper set

    2nd:  Rick Everett - Mercedes-Benz tool kit

3rd:  Jim Hannon - Mercedes-Benz socks, set of 3 pairs

On Sunday, we enjoyed a hilly, twisty, scenic Hill Country drive on some famed Twisted Sisters roads, after which traveled on a route along the Guadalupe River.  Lunch was at Elaine's Table, located right beside the Guadalupe in Hunt, TX.  After lunch, we capped the event with a visit to Stonehenge II in nearby Ingram.  The idea to build this 2/3 scale replica of the real thing started with a limestone slab left over from a patio project, then two friends went overboard and took it from there.  It is becoming a prominent piece of roadside Americana.

Despite forecasts of very strong rain for the weekend, the bad weather mostly stayed away and we had yet another fun and memorable Texas Hill Country Run.
