Let's take a scenic February drive north to Danville, AL for lunch at 'The Old CookStove' restaurant. We will start our drive from the Cracker Barrel in Gardendale, leaving by 9am.
The Old CookStove restaurant is owned by a local Mennonite family and located west of Cullman in the Danville Community. During seasons of garden harvest the fresh vegetables are prepared daily and served in the restaurant.
They are known for its delicious homemade chicken wings and fresh buffet. The buffet offers a wide variety of vegetarian options, perfect for those looking for a southern feast without meats. The food is consistently good, with many meats like baked ham, meatloaf, and roast beef, along with vegetables such as creamed corn, mashed potatoes, cabbage, fried green tomatoes, stuffed mushrooms, lima beans, green beans, black eye peas, mac and cheese, fried okra and much more. The dessert bar is a highlight, featuring fresh coconut cake, German chocolate cake, apple crisp, and homemade ice cream. The decor is simple and sweet; The friendly staff creates a welcoming atmosphere, and guests often enjoy buying goodies for sale like cakes, pies and quilts. Many fine the food to be real, home-cooked, and worth the drive from any nearby area.
Dutch Oven Bakery is also owned by a local Mennonite family the Brennemans they started selling baked goods from a roadside stand in Cullman County, Dutch oven bakery opened in September 1994. We are known for our many baked goods made from scratch. A few of our products include variety of pound cakes, layer cakes, breads, cheesecakes, pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, jams, fudge. Some of our more popular items include 5 flavor pound cake, sourdough bread, coconut cake, lemon bars, chocolate chip cookies, raisin oatmeal cookies, coconut Pie, pecan pie, strawberry swirl cheesecake, and deli sandwiches.
