Event Description:

Mercedes-Benz is celebrating an important fiftieth anniversary – the introduction of the original R107 SL. The 1971-1989 R107 SL ushered the roadster into the modern era. It was the first SL, for example, to feature a V-8 engine, with the 350SL model launch and followed soon by the 450SL, the 380SL and later the 560SL.

The Central Oklahoma Section of the MBCA is joining this celebration with an OKC Meet of area 107s. All MBCA 107 owners are invited to display your cars beginning at 9am on Saturday, October 23 at:

Mercedes-Benz of OKC (MBOKC)

Will Rogers Museum tour and lunch at J. Farley's Pub

“All I know is what I read in the newspapers”

On Saturday July 17, twenty-nine members from the Eastern Oklahoma and Ozark sections met for lunch and a guided tour of the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore OK.

Will Penn Adair Rogers  (November 4, 1879- August 15, 1935) was America’s cowboy philosopher. He was  an American stage and film actor, vaudeville performer, cowboy, humorist, newspaper columnist, and social commentator born in a log-walled, seven-room house along the Verdigris River, on the Cherokee Indian reservation in what is now Oklahoma.    During his life, Will Rogers made 71 films (50 silent films and 21 “talkies”) and wrote more than 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns. The incredible museum stands on the top of the hill in Claremore, Oklahoma, in his honor.

By the mid-1930s, Rogers was hugely popular in the United States for his leading political wit and was the highest paid of Hollywood film stars.  He died in 1935 with aviator Wiley Post when their small airplane crashed in northern Alaska.

Members were met by guide Andy Hogan who acted as our personal Will Rogers who gave us the biography, history, and lore of popular icon.  He also demonstrated several “cowboy roping tricks” and spoke in a native Oklahoma twang.

This trip was originally scheduled twice in 2020 and was rescheduled to 2021 once the museum reopened after COVID 19 protocols were lifted.   Special tanks to Kathy and Joel Menold for all of their planning efforts.

Oklahoma Mercedes Benz owner picnic

Oklahoma Mercedes Benz Picnic a huge success.

Fifty members and guests from the Eastern and Central Oklahoma sections gathered on Saturday June 12, 2021, for the Oklahoma Mercedes Benz owner picnic in Hafer Park in Edmond Oklahoma.  Members were all provided with a boxed lunch (due to Covid protocols) of a choice of sub sandwiches, snack, drink, and a cookie for dessert.

Nineteen members from Eastern Oklahoma section met at Jackie Cooper Mercedes and drove down the Turner Turnpike together.  It was great to see distant section members Ed and Peggy Hoag, William and Pat Nash, and Ben and Sharon Cunningham whom all have recently moved .  In addition, Brett Jurick South Central Regional Director made the trek up from the Dallas Metroplex.

Members Bruce Smith and Rob Thompson won one of the many door prizes.

Bi State Poker Run

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May showers bring?   POKER

Intermittent rain showers could not spoil the Bi State Poker run between the Eastern Oklahoma and Ozark sections on Saturday May 22, 2021.  Twelve cars with twenty-one members and guests made the 95-mile drive from Chouteau to Krebs Oklahoma.

A poker run is an activity where each card in the deck has a predetermined value.  Face cards have their numerical value,  aces only 1 point and Jacks, Queens and Kings garnering 11- 13 points.  All 52 cards are mixed in a bucket.  Participants draw a card from a bucket at each stop along the  drive. In the end, the person with the most points are declared the winner and wins 50% of the pot.  Each of the MBCA sections split the other 50%  for their treasury.  Names were pulled at each stop to win special gift bags that were awarded after the lunch.

Members met at the Amish Cheese House in Choteau to pick their first card.  Stops in Fort Gibson, Muskogee, Canadian, and Krebs finished out the playing hands.   The final destinations were Pete’s Place  restaurant for lunch and Lovera’s Italian market for Italian specialty foods.

A huge family style Italian dinner of spaghetti, ravioli, meatballs, and sausage capped off the drive.  Krebs and Pete’s Place are famous for the  fine Italian food for almost 100 years.

Special thanks to John and Dottie Miller for planning this fun event.  It is always great to see our friends from Northwest Arkansas.   We are planning another joint event for July as we visit the Will Rogers museum in July.

Event Description:

Have you ever been on a Poker Run?   Have you ever been to Pete’s Place in Krebs OK for home-made Italian food?

If not, here is your chance to enjoy two events in one.  We will be meeting up with the Ozark section of the MBCA at The Amish Cheese House in Chouteau Ok and proceed down Route 69 to Pete’s Place during the morning. Maps will be handed out to each car/driver.

A Poker run is where each car or driver contributes $10 to a “kitty”.  Those who enter will draw their first playing card at the Cheese House.  There will be a drawing for a small gift at that time. This will be repeated four more times at different stops along the route.  The winner with the highest total of the five cards gets half the pot.  The two sections will split the other half of the pot for use for their treasuries.  There will also be two bonus drawings as well.

We are trying to get to Krebs between 1:30-2:00pm for a spaghetti lunch.   After lunch, we will drive a few blocks to Lovera’s Italian Grocery if you are looking to pick up some Italian specialty meats, cheeses, or cookies.

Unfortunately, this event is limited to only sixteen people per section due to room restrictions at the restaurant.  Therefore, we will have a sign up on a first come, first served basis.  If you did not get a chance to sign up at the April meeting, please contact Harriet Kushnerick at 918 740 7624. We will try to figure a way that everybody can eat at Pete’s.  MEET AT JACKIE COOPER MERCEDES BENZ AT 9:00AM.  WE WILL DEPART PROMPTLY AT 9:15AM.  LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING BUT WILL MEET US AT THE AMISH CHEESE HOUSE AT 10:00.
