The Okracoke Island Overnight

A view of the Okracoke Island light from the balcony outside of our rooms.  Ocracoke Island is the southern part of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  It was a very comfortable six hour drive from Norfolk Virginia.

Drive to Okracoke Island

We paused at the Pea Island Visitors station on our drive down the Outer Banks of North Carolina
We had a very nice group for the trip.  A total of nine cars and 19  members
The planned lunch stop was closed so we ate in a sandwich shop where the "chef" had an attitude.

We waited about a half hour for the ferry from Hatteras to Okracoke Island
Bill Drum's 380SL is ready for the ferry ride.
Robby Ackerman assumes the "Old Salt" poise as he watches a fishing boat speed by.

The Hotel

We stayed at the Anchorage Inn, an older four story hotel which overlooks the Harbor.
The view from our balcony of the boats "out front".
Another balcony view of the Cedar Island ferry pulling into the harbor.

Festival and Dinner

Our visit coincided with a folk and story telling festival.  Everything was within waking distance.
Dinner was at the "Back Porch" restaurant where we ate in a screened in porch surrounded by live oak trees and oleander bushes.
The food was excellent.

Desert on the Balcony

After dinner we gathered on the balcony for desert.
Sunset from the balcony.

Heading Home

While heading back, we again waited for the ferry at the north end of Okracoke Island.
Some of us stopped at newly relocated Hatteras Lighthouse on the way back.  This is Betty Villers.
