spark plugs for old cars

nicew article, but I wonder why you don't recommend Champion (conventional) plugs.I had a '71 220 sedan, ran it for 10's of 1000's miles on Champions - never a problem. (It's been so long since I gave up the car, but I think they were NY6 type... ???)

Funny note, I gave the car to my young sister at the time and they bypassed the TI box with a traditional setup. . They didn't change the coil and I used the car again for a couple of years back in the early '80's with no probelms. Wish I could have given your arfticle to them back then...looks like they wasted their time on the conversion without looking at the obvious, and I would say that was point gap/dwell.
I now have a '65 300SE with dual points. It was starting/running poorly when obtained. I set up the points smack on, and she fired up like a champ - now to starighten out the fuel injection under load...who know what was twisted up.

transistorised ignition unit

most informative especially for a neophyte .My 1970 280se kept stalling and
the mechanic installed a MSD system.I would not have allowed this if i had
read your article.
Is this ok or should i have it replaced.
thanks for any thoughts on this.
Garth.
