I just joined MBCA yesterday after returning to the fold with a W108 280SE joining our humble fleet of family keepers, and seeing this article brings back memories of the early days and our family's MBs.
Kent Emigh supplied/exported MBs to our family in the Philippines for many years. A steady stream of them from the early 70s through early-80s were all handled by Kent. Among the ones that stand out were the 300 Adenauer, a pair of 114 220s, a pair of 450SELs to replace the 114s, a 123 240D-(aftermarket turbo'ed, stick shift) stretchlimo, a 280E and the 450SLC that made it to the Philippines, only to turn right around at the dock and go back to him since my grandmother was by then too ill to enjoy it. In the typical humor of our family, he was even given a nickname, which he may have heard my uncle joe--who lived in Palo Alto at the time--use: "Kent Afford" (as in "can't"). My first trip to the US in 1975 included a stop at his El Camino dealership, and was truly a memorable highlight.
So Kent's supply of MBs when I was a kid definitely had something to do to bring me back to to the Benz fold after all these years. And I love it.
