Clewiston Drive, Lunch & Ghost Tour

Saturday April 18th, 2009

Join us for a scenic 70 mile ride through old Florida as we head back in time to one of Florida’s historic cities, Clewiston. Located on the shore of Lake Okeechobee, Clewiston is the heart of Florida’s sugar industry.

We will be having a buffet lunch at the historic Clewiston Inn. The inn was built in 1938 by the United States Sugar Corporation to host company executives and visiting dignitaries. After Clewiston was destroyed by a hurricane in 1926, a levee was built around the lake to protect the cities on its shores. President Herbert Hoover visited the inn when he dedicated the levee, named the Hoover Dyke in his honor, which surrounds Lake Okeechobee. We will ride up onto that levee to view Lake “O” before lunch.

The inn is said to be haunted and in recent years has been the subject of many ghost investigators and curiosity seekers. Room #118 is said to be haunted by the spirit of a woman who peers out the window as if waiting for someone from a time long ago. Faint glimpses of a gentleman wearing a brown suit have been spotted near the fireplace in the lobby. The general manager reports feeling someone or something tugging at her hair or blouse, and a faint whisper of a woman calling her name in the middle of an empty lobby. Are these haunting reports real? You’ll be the judge since we will be treated to a ghost tour following lunch.

Please join us, won’t you? You’ll have an eerily good time.
