MBUSA Headquarters-Montvale, NJ The 46th Annual June Jamboree 2009 – the longest running MBCA event in the United States The worker bees arrived at 7 am and were greeted with rays of sunshine glistening through the clouds and a hint of a promise that the rain would hold off. By 7:45 am the first of the participants arrived and the 46th Annual June Jamboree was now officially underway. After picking up their registration packets and getting their assigned spaces the members parked their cars and came back for some hot coffee, fresh fruit, and Danish in the newly redesigned dining room at MBUSA. By 10 am the Judges had had their meeting ably led by Head Judge, Pete Lesler, Registration was closed and the Judges were off to inspect the Concours cars. Things went smoothly as the majority of the Concours and all of the Popular Vote cars were in the upper level parking lot in their assigned spaces. (Thanks to Andreas Molde and his crew for numbering the spaces on Friday evening.) While the Judges were busy doing their jobs, the rest of the members present were able to walk around and vote for their favorite Popular Vote vehicle. Both groups had a difficult task as all the cars were in excellent condition and it was difficult to find imperfections in the Concours vehicles and to decide which Benz in each Popular Vote category was the favorite. As luck had it, we did manage to make it through the day with only a slight mist that began around 11 am. The rain drops on the cars sparkled like diamonds and added another dimension to the show. It was a glorious sight to behold as 80 beautiful Benzes were on display for our admiration. One of the highlights of the show was the magnificent SLR proudly showing off its fine engineering and superb craftsmanship – the engine was a sight for our eyes to feast upon. By 12:30 the judging was complete, the Popular Votes turned in, and it was time for a delicious luncheon. The food was beautifully prepared and served to a most appreciative crowd. After lunch was over, Doug Ochwat introduced Adam Paige and he in turn introduced Anne Doris Korallus, who spoke to us about the benefits of European Delivery and Scott Keilman, who gave us an overview of the new E-Class. Doug then presented members with their year pins: 5 – Mark Sluscavage, Frank Conforti, Julie Levin; 10 –Roger Egolf, Chris Pozarycki, Andy Permison, Valery Moskin; 20 – Sy Jacobowitz, Al Frei; 25 – Dennis Yuro; and 35 – Carl Heide. Doug also presented Ken Spingarn, our Newsletter Editor and Webmaster, with a plaque of recognition and thanks for his dedicated service to the club. Next, it was time for some door prizes most generously donated by MBUSA, Prestige, Globe, Intercar, Benzel-Busch, MB of Freehold, Ray Catena, Princeton and Contemporary. Finally it was time for the results. Beautiful etched glass trophies were presented to each of the winners in their respective class or category. There were 6 wonderful entries in the 50th Year of the Finback group and the 1st place trophy was presented to Alex Tibcken for his gorgeous white and gray 1965 220S. The Judges’ Choice Award went to Salvatore Anicito for his magnificent 1955 black 300S and Best in Show was presented to Keith Morgan for his 1967 250SE.Full results for both the Concours and Popular Vote Competition may be found here.
