Presidents Message Fall 2008

With summer coming to an end, the driving season is not over. In fact I think fall is one of the best times of the year for cruising. No more hot and humid, the air is crisp and clean. Fall colors, apples, and Faberaylle! What better way to view the foliage than a 2 day event with your fellow Mercedes Benz enthusiasts.

This summer we had some great events. Ken Bourque out did himself with this year's Nautical Cruise Presented by AlphaCars. I could not believe the number of boats in Mystic Harbor. The dinner at the Daniel Packer Inn was fantastic. We thanked Ken for all his hard work with a Mercedes Benz car care kit.

Germanfest XXII Presented by Intercity Lines went off without a hitch in spite of Hana. When I went outside at 3:30 AM and the rain had stopped, I drew a big sigh of relief. John Slamin did his usual fantastic job, as he has done for the last 15 years. Imagine doing an event for 15 years, and it's no small job. Made even more difficult this year because John's laptop was stolen, and he had to recreate the scoring program and all the forms. We thanked him with a car care kit as well. I would like to thank all the sponsors of this year's event. They are listed on a separate page in the Newsletter and on the Website. Please support them, as they support us. John, Thank You.

Germanfest has a support staff that works hard every year to keep John Slamin and the Chief Judge {forgot his name} from being overwhelmed . Without these members it would be utter confusion. They deserve a big thank you, and they are:

The Registration Staff: Cathi Sheehan, Bonnie Fancy and Nancy Piekarczyk.

The Judges: Ernie Fancy, Dave Sheehan, Dave Bryant, Steve Wiener, Ed Owen, Mark Fancy, Bruce Kline, Jim O'Sullivan, Al Copper, Dick Divitto and Peter Vanderveer, and thank you to Lee Slamin for your help parking cars.

We have bought an Email Service to send Event Notices in the future. Many times new events come up that will be out of sync with the Newsletter. This is the only way to let the membership know about these events. This is a secure service and your information is not shared. They come from [npiekarczyk@msn.com] and will be titled Mercedes Benz Club. If you are not receiving them, please go to the Website, www.mbca.org/minuteman and sign up. Thank you, Nancy.

Welcome to our newest sponsor, Dave Cusano's Boyles Bodyworks, his banner is on the Website. Thanks Dave!

As I write this in mid September, we still have 4 great events to come. If you have suggestions for events next year, or for the Section in general contact me at, 560sec@charter.net .

A warm welcome to our new members for June, July and August ; Richard Alles, Stephen Fenerjian, Norman Hayes, Chris Hill, Robert Merrigan, Ed Olbon, James Tamagin, William Selden, Sherryl Rosen, Steve Beardsley, John Carroll, Shunsuke Ghigusa, Carl Heintzelman, James Maceman, Michael Corliss, Maurice Bresnahan, Paul Richardson, Mark Weston, Ted Leutz, Tim Allen, John Romanuck and Eric Greenstein. Thank you for joining and I look forward to meeting you.

Presidents Message Summer 2008

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It's great to be able to enjoy our Mercedes Benz's, especially when they stay clean for more than a day. Being a detail nut, a dirty car drives me crazy. I drive Nancy crazy with, kick the dirt off your shoes before you get in the car. Now if I could just get the birds to cooperate!

Nancy and I attended the National Board and Northeast Presidents meeting in Canandaigua, NY in May. It's great to interact with members from around the country. I presented a check for $500.00 to the Mercedes Benz Club Educational Foundation on behalf of the Minuteman Section. An article and pictures are on the webpage under past events.

We have two new advertisers to announce. J. E. Robison Service in Springfield and Dewire Bros. Autobody in Newton. Thank you for your support of the Minuteman Section. You can click their banners on the Homepage.

In August we have the 10 th anniversary of Ken Bourque's Nautical Event Presented by AlphaCars. It will be in Mystic, CT. on the 10th. Ken has been doing a fantastic job with this event. He puts a lot of time and effort into it every year and always comes up with a different venue. Thanks Ken, and I look forward to your next 10 years as Event Chairman. Registration forms are on the Website and in this issue of Triangles. Hope to see you there.

On August 23rd we have a new event in WESTERN MASS. J. E. Robison Service in Springfield will hold a Tech Session at 9am. I hope that a lot of the members in the western part of the state attended. Details on the Web under Upcoming Events.

September 7 th brings Germanfest XXII Presented by Intercity Lines at the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation in Brookline, Ma. John Slamin is the Event Chairman and runs a well organized show, usually over by 2pm. Your car does not have to be a garage queen to do well. In fact the Survivor Class is for cars at least 25 years old, which have never been restored. There is a class for every model Mercedes Benz, so clean up your car and join us on the 7 th .

Concour de Musique returns on September 21 st . This was a well attended and fun event last year. The event held at M. Steinert & Sons of Natick, MA. combines piano music and cars. Event Chairwoman, Elizabeth Taylor did an outstanding job last year, and I look forward to this year's event. Details on the Web and Newsletter.

Farberaylle XXXI Presented by European Auto Solutions of Waltham will be held on October 10, 11 and 12 th, in Keene, NH. Chairman Mark Fancy has been working on this for the better part of a year. This is always a fun event, and Mark, being Ernie and Bonnie's son you can expect a challenging yet fun raylle. Details on the Web.

Triangle's is looking for members to write articles. Share your unique stories about your Mercedes Benz or life in general. Remember it's your Newsletter, members want to hear from other members. Submit them to Ron Beaton, Editor at, wejournal@aol.com weyjournal@aol.com.

Presidents Message
Spring 2008

Finally the snow is gone [I hope!] and we can get back to what we enjoy most, driving our Mercedes Benz. Winter is a cruel time for car nuts - salt, sand, cold, dirty cars, well you get the point. With spring in the air, it's time to clean up our cars and drive.

In March we held our Annual Meeting and Theater Event. It was held at Hasty Pudding and was a great time. Probably the closest most of us will ever get to Harvard. Event Chairman Rich Garick did a fantastic job just as he has done for the last 21 years. 21 years! Now that is dedication! Thank you Rich!

At the event we also recognized the Officers and Directors with gold membership badges for all their hard work. These individuals are the backbone of the Section.

Nancy Piekarczyk, Webmaster received her award as Member of The Year. Those of you who frequent the website, www.mbca.org/minuteman I hope you will agree that it is among the best. I'm just a bit prejudice.

We also held elections and I want to thank the officers for returning for another year. I want to thank the membership for allowing me to serve as President for another year. I enjoyed 2007, and look forward to a great 2008.

I'm pleased to announce Jim O'Sullivan, Past National President as our Membership Chairman. Those of you that have met Jim know what a great guy he is, I look forward to working with him.

We have major event Sponsorships to announce. We have 4 major events each year that are very expensive to run. We now have sponsorship for 3 of them.

Germanfest Presented by Intercity Lines will be held on September 7 th . Intercity Lines is America's premier enclosed automobile transporter. Dave and Linda Wilson are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet. When your baby needs to be shipped, click their banner on the website.

Ken Bourgue's Annual Nautical Event Presented by AlphaCars, will be held in August. Dmitry of AlphaCars has been a long time supporter of the Section. Great selection of late model used cars, when you need one click their banner on the website. AlphaCars will be holding a Tech Session in October.

Farberaylle Presented by European Auto Solutions, October 10, 11, 12 th . EAS has been a huge supporter of the Section. Great service for your Mercedes Benz. Give Ed and the boy's a call or click their banner on the website. They also have a Tech Session on April 12 th , RSVP 560sec@charter.net

Thank you for sponsoring our events.

We have some great events this spring, April 12 EAS Tech Session, May 10 Collings Car Collection, May 18 Norman Rockwell Museum. Check the website for details and updates.

Winter 2008
by John S. Piekarczyk
President, Minuteman Section, MBCA

Happy New Year! 2007 went by faster than an SLR McLaren on the Autobahn! The Minuteman Section had a very full year in 2007. We had 7 events and were part of 3 additional events. The Concours d'Musique was by far the most unique. Over 55 members attended, with more new faces than I have seen in a long time. This event will be repeated on September 21, 2008, and should not be missed.

2008 will be another busy year for the section. Our tentative schedule has 7 events {on the web and in the newsletter} with a few more to come. A new event that is sure to be a hit is the Caravan to the Norman Rockwell Museum on May 18 th . With Ernie Fancy as Chairman, you can expect a good time.

This year we are looking for overall event sponsors for The Nautical Event, Germanfest and Farberaylle. We hope to make these events bigger and better for the membership and we need sponsors to do it. If you know of a company that would make a good sponsor, email me at 560sec@charter.net .

I'm asking again, for members on Cape Cod, Western MA, and Rhode Island to contact me about running events in your area. You are valued members of the Minuteman Section and we need to have events in your areas. I'm here to help.

On the topic of membership, I'd like to ask all of you to be the Membership Committee. When you see someone driving a Mercedes Benz, tell them about the benefits of becoming a member and give them an application. You get one with every Star magazine; you can also call the national office to have more sent to you. You get a free month of membership with every new member that you sign up. Be sure to give them your member number. In 2007 the Minuteman Section welcomed over 100 new members! Let's keep it up in 2008.

One benefit is the Mercedes-Benz Club of America Membership Loyalty Reward Program. It's all new for 2008. Get the details on the web and in the newsletter.

I would like to welcome our new members for September, October and November, they are; David Adrian, Allen Beaupre, Giliard Ferreira, Edward Gately, George Patterson, Mark Reenstierna, G W Whalen, Nicholas Alex, Sean Fensel, John Gates, Jeanne Gibson, Robert Harrison, David Manoogian, Leonard Matz, Steve Molina, William Union, Ockert Vanderschijff, Monika Wildman, Richard Zaunbrecher, Julie Langone, John Mulkterrin, Paul Stump, Richard Black, Anthony Hamel, Philip Mason and Ann Krajewski. Fall 2007
by John S. Piekarczyk
President, Minuteman Section, MBCA

With summer coming to an end, it's time to sit back and reflect on the season's events.

Ken Bourque's Nautical event was well done as usual. Every year he comes up with a new venue. I know our coast line is long, but I don't know how he keeps finding new places to hold the event. Ken, thank you for a job well done.

I'm writing this after today's Germanfest XXI. This is our biggest and most complicated event of the year. John Slamin has been the event Chairman for as long as I can remember, and probably longer than he wants to remember. This event takes a lot of planning, coordinating and just plain hard work. Year in and year out, John does an outstanding job. Last year he even arranged to have the B 2 bomber fly over! Too bad this year's weather didn't cooperate. John, on behalf of the entire membership, thank you.

It's not an event you can do alone and the Judges and Registration staff put a huge effort in all day long. The same people show up every year, and they are; Ernie and Bonnie Fancy, Dave Bryant, Nancy Piekarczyk, Cathi and Dave Sheehan, Dick Lloyd, Steve Wiener, Ed Owen, Ken Ridley, Mark Fancy, Bruce Kline, Dick DeVito and Al Cooper. Thank you.

Also this year we sold sponsorship for all the classes. These firms are listed on a separate page and I thank you all. Please support them. I'd like to thank Ed Owen for his help in securing sponsors.

Next up is Faberaylle XXX at the end of September and Concours de Musique at M.Steinert and Sons in Natick, MA. Check the website www.mbca.org/minuteman for time and place.

This is the last Newsletter before the Holiday Season and I'd like to ask all the members to do something for those less fortunate. Every year, Nancy and I give toys to our Police Department's Toy Drive. Most towns have one, but there are other ways to donate. Please do what you can. Happy Holidays to everyone.

I would like to welcome the following new members for June, July and August: Steve Hollingsworth, Maryann Gilbert, Jose Rivera, David Rous, Brett Johnson, Liam O?hea, Richard Mullen, S. Pupek, Fran Fistori, Daniel Foley, George Fosella, Mark Leqolvan, David Gervasini, Karen Camp, R. I can't believe that half the year has gone by. I do know that we have had 4 great events! Rich Garrick's Annual Dinner was a fantastic affair, as usual. Thank you Rich. How do you spell Webster Lake?

European Auto Solutions Tech Session in April was a great event. Thank you , Tim, Ed, Arthur, Scott, Shaun and Jordon. They have been open for one year, have had 2 Tech Sessions, a complete detailing for the raffle at Germanfest and sponsored the dinner at Fabberaylle last year. How do you spell great supporter of the Minuteman Section? EAS !! Their banner is on the Website.

On June 16 th we had the Chicken BBQ at Indian Ranch in Webster. 50 members came and I hope they had a great time. I do know that we owe a Huge thank you to Wagner Mercedes Benz for sponsoring the event. The boat tours of the lake were a big hit. Click their banner on the Website.

At the Chicken BBQ we honored Ron Beaton with a Clk Pen for his creating our Newsletter. The Newsletter was one of the Top 10 in the Country in 2006. Ron, thank you for all your hard work. Thanks for correctinnnng all of my errors.

I would like to thank my wife, Nancy for all her work on designing and maintaining our Website. As with editing the Newsletter, it's a thankless job, but one that everyone counts on. Thank you Nancy. For all News come to the website.

I want to ask all the members to give a membership app to a Mercedes Benz owners that you meet on the street. The more members we have, reduces the cost of our events. You save money. I have apps in my cars stamped with my member #. I hand one to every MB driver I meet. In the last year I have extended my membership by 4 months!!! Spring 2007
by John S. Piekarczyk
President, Minuteman Section, MBCA

I would like to introduce myself to those of you who don’t know me. I’m John Piekarczyk, and I’ve been a member of the Club for almost nine years. Our first exposure to club events was the Spring Rally in 1999. This was run by Dave and Cathi Sheehan. The funny thing was Dave was driving a Porsche and John Slamin, the President at the time, was driving a Ferrari. I thought this was a Mercedes Benz Club! We still had a great time!

But the most striking thing that happened was, a tall, somewhat balding gentleman, walked up as Nancy and I got out of our car, and said; Hi, I’m Ernie Fancy, welcome! I’ll never forget that! Here we are strangers, in a foreign land and out of the blue this man makes us feel right at home! We must be special!

As I learned later, Ernie, who has been in the club for 32 years, makes it a point to welcome all new members in the same manner. We were, and you are special because of members like Ernie. Over the years, Nancy and I have become good friends with Ernie and Bonnie. You will too!

Which brings us to, Mark Fancy, our past President. Mark was elected President in 2005 and I Vice President. John Slamin and Dave Sheehan had a lot to do with this, but that’s another story. Mark is the spitting image of his father, same personality, and has become a great friend. He has served us well as a Director, Vice President and President. We all owe a debt of thanks to him. I owe him more for suggesting that I become President.
I owe a lot to you, the members for confirming this.

The point I’m trying to make with all this rambling is this, it’s a great club, made up by great people with a common interest. It’s your Club!

If there is an event you’d like to see the club sponsor —suggest it! My wife tells me it’s geared too much towards cars. That’s why she came up with the idea of the Chicken BBQ. It’s a family function! We need more members to suggest and run events that appeal to women, children and the general membership.

It’s your club, run an event!

President Minuteman Section, MBCA

What happened to the summer? I am sure I must be like everyone else who spent their summer enjoying the wonderful weather and driving their Mercedes. I enjoyed going to several club events this summer from our section and our neighboring sections. I also know that some members from our section enjoyed themselves on the Route 66 trip.

Both members of Minuteman Section of the MBCA and Northern New England Star enjoyed Farberallye XXIX. With all of these events this summer has made celebrating the club's 50th anniversary enjoyable. It is just as much fun to attend these events as it is to put them on.

If you have any ideas of events that you would like to see or if you would like to help put on an event, let me know. We are currently planning next year's events. There are several interesting events planned this year on the national level.

StarFest this year will be held in Las Vegas in October. The one event I know is getting a lot of attention from members is the Route 66 tour from Chicago to Santa Monica, in late September. For our local members that are interested in attending the Route 66 tour their will be a northeast caravan traveling to Chicago. For more details see Triangles. Also, Mercedes Benz corporate is having excursions to Stuttgart for factory tours and sight seeing. For more details on these trips contact Jim O’Sullivan at 919-401-9861 or jimo@attglobal.net.

Fall 2005

Once again the leaves are changing color and it’s time to start thinking about fall activities to share with your Mercedes and family. I am looking forward to seeing you and your Mercedes this year in beautiful Vermont for Farberallye.

Another fun activity the kids and I enjoy is going to our local dealership to check out the new models. Have you seen the new R-Class, CLS-Class and the redesigned ML-Class? Whatever your preferred model is, get out there and enjoy all this beautiful season has to offer.

With the end of this year approaching quickly, let’s get a head start on planning events for the upcoming year. I would like to solicit your input on what events you might find exciting for next year. Some of the 2006 events that are already in the works are our popular annual dinner featuring the magic of David Copperfield, Germanfest XX and Farberallye XXIX in the Northeast Kingdom area of Vermont.

Summer 2005

I would like to thank James Myers for his excellent past work as our newsletter editor and at the same time welcome Ron Beaton to this position. I'd also like to thank Nancy Piekarczyk for developing our new web site and taking on the responsibility of webmaster. Be sure to browse the newsletter and visit the web site regularly for the latest news on upcoming events and photographs from our past events.

I hope everyone has been enjoying their Mercedes this summer. The following are ideas for warm weather cruising pleasure. First, we have the Salem Harbor Sailing Cruise on August 15th; details are in this issue of Tri-Angles. Secondly, for those of you who rather keep your feet dry, grab a friend and come to Larz Anderson Auto Museum on September 11th for Germanfest. Lastly, for you more adventurous types, you can compete in the Havasupai `05 (http://www.desertstars.org) or Farberallye XXVIII. There are still several months of great driving weather ahead. Enjoy them. I look forward to seeing you out on the open road.
