Minuteman Section History
Welcome to the Minuteman Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. The Minuteman Section has its roots dating back to 1966 when founding father Warren Roos gathered up a small group of Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. The Section was formed and active until 1967, with a few of its original members continuing to participate in national events as members-at-large.
The Minuteman Section was revitalized in 1973, when then National President, Phil Parrino and Regional Vice President, Hans Lipfert, asked one of the remaining original Section members, Ike Kilayko to host a meeting at his home. Ike was appointed President, Alex Dearborn as Vice President, Dan Eigenbrode as Treasurer and Doris Kilayko as Secretary. Ike, Doris and Alex remain members of the club to this day.
The Minuteman Section has remained active, running section events and participating in national programs since that time. Premier events sponsored annually by the Club are Farberallye and Germanfest.
Growing Friendships
The Minuteman section currently enjoys a growing membership of active participants who share a common passion for the Mercedes-Benz automobile and share great enjoyment from friendships formed and the social gatherings that bring them together. The Minuteman Section welcomed 98 new members in 2006 and over 100 new members in 2007.
Annual Stellar Events
Farberallye boasts a 30 year history of bringing members and their families together each fall in celebration of New England's spectacular foliage. Farberallye is alternately sponsored by the Minuteman and Northern New England Star sections (previously Granite State). The first event was held in the quaint village of Woodstock, Vermont, and graciously hosted by Dan Eigenbrode marking the beginning
of a wonderful Club tradition.
The 2007 event was held in Springfield, Vermont at the Hartness Inn and Restaurant in the Precision Valley area near the Connecticut River. The event was hosted by the Northern New England Star section and it was done magnificently. Attendees enjoyed a beautiful historic landmark setting, which included a unique tour of the Inns one-of-a kind antique astronomical observatory. Not only did we enjoy the company of Club members, but we were invited in to "crash" the private party of a reunion of old college buddies visiting the Inn to enjoy their concert performed by a foursome of very gifted singers and musicians. If I heard my husband John, say "they are reallllly good" once, I heard him say it 100 times!
Another annual favorite is the Minuteman Section's car show, Germanfest. In 2007 we celebrated the events 21st year. Congratulations 2007 winners. Germanfest brings together Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts from far and near to enjoy the thrill of the competition or just the company of some good people.
Originally named the Grand Salon and held at Alex Dearborn’s place in Prides Crossing, Massachusetts, Germanfest is held on the beautiful grounds of the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation in Brookline, Massachusetts and is the museum's longest running event. Always an event worth marking your calendars for in advance. The event is held on Sunday the weekend following Labor Day.
