Our 89 190 2.6 has a problem with the fuel gauge. My wife ran out of gas again yesterday. The first time this happened was last fall, the gauge showed 1/4 of a tank or more. At that time I replaced the fuel level sending unit. Does the gauge have to be replaced also?

Most likely.. I can get it for you at wholesale if that's the problem.

I had this sticking indicator problem as well. Mine ended up being wire coating trash traped into the windings in such a way it prevented the needle from moving. I wish for yours to be that simple.

I would be interested to know if the reserve bulb is blown when you R/R the component. also if the battery and brake lights have been acting odd (resulting from possible diode(s) failure) or not at all due to blown bulbs.
Keep us posted and best of luck,
-M

The problem ended up being a loose ground wire behind the carpet by the driver side kickpanel. The wire termination was definetly not original. I suspect it was done when the alarm system was installed. I reterminated the wire and used better
hardware to secure it. We have gone thru 3 tanks of gas and the gauge is accurate.

Joseph:
Good to hear that was a simpler fix to the alternative (R & R). I will make an note on the source and what affect it had. thank you.

Has anyone else had problems with the fuel gauge or any other components within the instrument cluster for the 190e?
