I have a blower fan problem with my 98 SL500 with 13,500 miles. The fan speed recently became erratic and I was unable to control manually. Now the fan runs at high speed even when I turn the A/C off. It also keeps running at high speed when I turn off the ignition and lock the car. The only way I can turn it off after the ignition is off is to pull the 30A fuse under the hood. Then the fan stays off until the next time I turn on the ignition.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Hopefully it's not the blower regulator, because the part cost about $400 online.

Sounds like it may be the speed control or the pushbutton panel - big bucks either way.

I may be able to get you a reman PB but speed control is not rebuildable . . beware "used' ones on Ebay - I get lots of complaints about non-functioning units sold by salvage yards . . .pay with a credit card or PayPal so you can get your money back . ..

Thanks for the info and warning about Ebay. I assume the "speed control" you mention is the same as the blower regulator(p/n 1298213351)? All my push buttons seem to work with the corresponding display. The fact that the blower goes instantly to high when I activate any function of the climate control, and that it won't turn off when I turn off the car(unless I reset the blower control 30A fuse), leads me to believe that the blower regulator is bad.

Too bad - new ones are $500 - I can get you a new one for $425, but can't ship until I return from trip . . .
