I just got a call from my daughter-in-law at Harvard University. She lives just around the corner from the law firm of Dewy, Chetham & Howe and Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers. This afternoon as she was driving home everything on her 300D was running fine. She stops at a traffic light and when she pulls away the car would not shift out of first gear. She says she drove it up to 5 1/2 rpms in first. Well in guy speak that means 5500 rpm, which I didn't know was possible in an '83 300D with 375,000 miles on it.

In short the question is what would cause it to not to shift out of 1st gear? I'm in Virginia so I can't check for a loose vacuum line, but I'd think it must be something simple.

Cheers,

Robby

I asked my son to check for a loose vacuum line around the valve cover, he found one and full shifting has been restored.

Well if it happens again, may I suggest that she take it to the Beetum & Cheetum Transmission Shop.
