I have a1991 300e that won't start. The starter turns over but doesn't get fuel. It will start if you slowly spray starter fluid into the throttle body. I have changed the fuel distributor, idle control valve, fuel filter,ke computer module. There is no voltage at the cold start valve or the idle control valve. It won't idle correctly even if you get it started because of the idle control valve not getting voltage. I'm out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also changed the throttle body switch and the main throttle body.

And did you change the OVP relay?

One other thought - only 'cause it happened to me. Open up your distributor, and LOOK down deep for the metal tower support for the rotor. Mine broke, and my mechanic said he'd seen it a couple of times before.

Re: 300E start problems

I didn't change the fuel pump relay because at the fuel distributor its getting plenty of gas when you turn the key. It doesn't get voltage to the cold start valve when its cold. After you get it started by spraying small mists of starter fluid and it warms up it will run but with an idle of only 500rpm and rough because of the idle control valve voltage missing. I did not change the ovp relay either but would that cause missing voltages to the cold start valve and the idle control valve. When you apply voltage to the cold start valve it will start with no starter fluid and run but with rough idle until you apply voltage to the idle control valve then the idle smooths out. Thanks for your help

Re: 300E start problems

sounds like an issue with the EHA [electrohydrualic actuator] or the fuel distributor potentiometer. Does the car get fuel out of the injector ports on the cCIS?If you hold the air flap open a little bit will the car start?

Re: 300E start problems

The eha valve has been changed along with the fuel distributor. It gets gas at the injector ports and it will start only if you hit it with starter fluid through the throttle body. The missing voltages to the cold start valve and idle control valves I think are the clues. Thanks

Re: 300E start problems

Does anyone have schematics for the 1991 300e? I have a Haynes book but they don't seem to match what I'm seeing. Thanks
