Event Report
The Fort Worth Section held their 2011 Holiday Celebration at the famous Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth. Once again, we thank long-time MBCA member Gerry Goodman, who made it possible for us to use this great venue.
Arriving members were welcomed with an hors d’oeuvres reception, which provided a great opportunity for members to get to know each other or to reaffirm old ties in a nice social setting. During the reception, a musical slideshow comprising hundreds of pictures from Fort Worth’s 2011 event season was shown on a strategically-located widescreen TV for everyone to see.
After the reception, we welcomed attending members and guests, thanked them for their participation and support throughout the year, and outlined the evening’s program. We then sat down to a fine 3-course dinner, which featured a duet of tenderloin filet and sea bass as the main course. The food was prepared just right, and our group of 60 was served very well by an efficient and prepared Colonial staff.
The entertainment portion of the evening began after dinner, with Jim Hannon as the emcee. The great Leo BotchedKey (Larry Vaughn) accompanied all performers with his deft guitar-playing. First up was Mercedes Demille (Cecile de Jesus), granddaughter of Cecile B. Demille, with a fine rendition of Have Yourself a Very Merry Christmas. Next was the talented and beautiful Cleopatra (DJ de Jesus), who sang the sultry classic Santa Baby as only she can. For our finale, several young ladies from the audience (Park Place’s Amanda Brown and Brittney Torres, Mika Tirschler and Susan Tsang) volunteered to form our percussion section, The Frogs. Even our massive budget is not without limit. The Frogs accompanied the incomparable Leo BotchedKey and Cleopatra as they performed Jingle Bells.
It was now time for members to try their hand at winning terrific prizes. Each attendee was given a game form with 9 usable letters of the alphabet in a box. The objective was to form as many words with as many letters from the box as they can. We can never leave well enough alone, so as usual there were some special rules (minimum of 4 letters in a word, no proper names, words ending with the letter ‘s’ were not allowed, a letter cannot be used twice in the same word, etc.). Each letter from each legal word written on the form counted for a point - players with the most points win. When the Fog of Confusion cleared, 3 winners emerged:
First Place: Susan Tsang - His & Hers MBCA watches by Guess;
Second Place: Debbie Lowke - a Mercedes-Benz throw blanket, donated by Park Place Fort Worth;
Third Place: Angela Kesling - a set of Mercedes-Benz stemless wine glasses, won by virtue of a tiebreak with Buzz Bartlett, who had the same score (OK, so there remained a few wisps from the Fog of Confusion).
The rest of the evening was spent on the dance floor to the beat of great music selections played by our DJs, Wen & Lily Grio. Each attendee took home a beautiful black lacquer Mercedes-Benz pen as a memento of the event.
Special thanks to new member Kris Ikejiri for his photo contributions. CLICK for a complete pictorial and music slideshow of this and other Fort Worth past events.
