StarFest, taking place this year in the Shenandoah Valley in and around Winchester, Virginia, started off with a lovely concours d'elegance at the historic Jordan Springs Conference Center. Over 75 Mercedes-Benz automobiles were arrayed on the lawns of the old brick hospital building dating back to before the Civil War. Cars ranged from a 1934 500K and a 1939 540K to a variety of 300SL gullwings and roadsters, an actual AMG Hammer station wagon, 220 and 300SE cabriolets, and the entire range of two-seat roadsters from the R113s to the R107s.

Genie and I are meeting up with members from Alabama and Georgia at MBUSI in Birmingham on Sept. 19 for a four-day tour up the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountain Parkways, stopping at Asheville (the Biltmore) and Charlottesville (Monticello). Looking forward to the trip.
